The Bombardier Q400 aircraft was operated by Manassas, VA based Colgan Air.  The 74 seat commercial prop-jet was only recently certified into commission on April 16, 2008.  The Bombardier Q400 line has come under heavy criticism following 3 crashes in 2007 on account of faulty landing gear. Weather and  potential icing concerns existed at the time of this crash.   The National Transportation Safety Board will be providing frequent commentary to the media over the next few days and will attempt to secure the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), collectively known as the “Black Box” as soon as conditions permit.
